My first creative work was photography. I still have my original Pentax 35mm camera and will always keep it just to remind me where it all started. My equipment expanded to include extra lenses, easy change filters and a tripod. I purchased several photography books and took photography classes at Oakland Community College. I thoroughly enjoyed the dark room experience at OCC but I knew I didn't have the space to create my own darkroom so I quickly dismissed that option.

I enjoy taking local trips focusing on a few specific things like barns or lighthouses or rivers. I eventually switched to a digital camera because of the ability to instantly see my pictures and determine if I got the shot I was looking for. I am using a simple digital camera with no fancy lenses. I also take a lot of photographs with my phone. I will eventually upgrade to a nicer camera however I find myself wanting to show everyone that you can take some pretty awesome pictures with that little pocket camera. It's not just the equipment - it's understanding placement and having a sense of what is 'special' that will make a photograph really stand out.

In 2016 I had the opportunity to take a photography trip to Death Valley with my brother, Ken. He lent me a 35mm digital camera with various lenses and we were off! It was during this trip that I was introduced to Adobe Lightroom. It was a great learning experience and a great trip. We've just started talking about another trip this fall to see all the wonderful waterfalls in Upper Michigan. Stay tuned...
