Stained Glass Repairs
The process of repairing begins with taking the piece apart until all the broken pieces have been exposed and removed. In some cases, you can repair the item only removing the broken pieces. In most cases the repair requires the piece to be taken apart until you reach the broken area. Sometimes you have to take out additional unbroken pieces because the replacement glass is not a perfect match.

The owner of this piece loved it for the design and yellow glass. As I took it apart to fix the broken pieces, I started cleaning the glass. I had to show the owner pictures of before and after cleaning. The glass was clear, not yellow. It apparently had been in a location where there was lots of smoking. It still looked great when it was done!

Another tricky one. This was very long and slightly unstable. It had some bracing and several pieces of broken glass. I repaired the glass and added extra bracing for stability.

This was a very old window that had some broken glass and was sagging in the frame. The owner did not want to do a full repair, so I fixed the broken glass, and added some support. He was limited on how much he wanted to spend on this, so I showed him how to clean the glass as seen on the top of the window. He took the frame home and completed the job. It's amazing how much a good cleaning can improve stained glass.

A gentleman approached me with this window he had picked up at a garage sale. There was no broken glass, but the window caulking was dried out and the window was falling out of the frame. He just wanted me to re-set the window in the frame and then clean it up. Nice garage sale find!

Another interesting repair. This piece came to me in a Zip Lock baggie. The owner had a photograph of her sitting on a couch in her living room with this piece hanging in the background. That was all I had to work with for placing the pieces back together. The piece is 3D with open spaces between the flowers and the leaves.
